Welcome to The Friday Fill, our brand new bi-weekly series dedicated to easy, elevated cocktail recipes and brilliant hosting hacks that kick off the weekend right.
You know that feeling when Thursday afternoon rolls around and you realize you haven't locked in plans yet? Consider this series the nudge to do something about it. Grab your phone, text the group chat, rally your crew, and let's make something fun happen this weekend. No excuses, just excellent drinks and great company.
For our inaugural episode, High Camp co-founder Nic is showing us how to scale up the ultimate party starter (and the catalyst for all your best weekend stories): The Espresso Martini.
The Ultimate Hosting Hack: Why You Should Batch Cocktails
You invite your friends over to connect, share some laughs, and create memories together. But it's hard to be the life of the party if you're stuck in the kitchen measuring out individual drinks all evening. The best hosts know that the real magic happens when you're actually present with your guests.
That’s the beauty of batching. It’s the art of crafting one massive, expertly balanced cocktail for the whole crew at once. It means less time measuring ingredients and way more time swapping stories on the patio. Plus, when the drinks are this exceptional, your friends are absolutely going to want a second round. With the right gear, keeping the good times flowing is a completely effortless experience.
Classic Batch Cocktail Recipes: The Espresso Martini
Every great host has a few foolproof batch recipes in their back pocket, and the Espresso Martini has got to be one of them. Smooth, bold, and brilliantly caffeinated, the Espresso Martini is a crowd-pleaser. It’s a party starter. Shake one up, and you’re guaranteed to get a few more “takers” on the next round.
To batch this for a group, we’re using the Highball Shaker. Since it boasts a generous 750ml capacity (about 25 ounces), we have plenty of room for a massive cocktail and the ice needed to give it that signature velvety foam.
The Recipe
Yields six exceptional martinis (15 oz total liquid).
- 8 oz Premium Vodka
- 4 oz Coffee (See Nic's cold brew pro-tip below!)
- 2 oz Coffee Liqueur
- 1 oz Simple Syrup (Adjust to your sweet tooth)
The Golden Ratio: 2 parts Vodka, 1 part Coffee, ½ part Coffee Liqueur, ¼ part Simple Syrup.
How to Shake It Up
- Ice It Down: Start by filling your Highball Shaker halfway with ice.
- Pour it In: Measure your vodka, coffee, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup directly over the ice.
- Lock and Load: Thread the lid onto the Highball Shaker. Because our lid securely threads on, it won't fly off—no matter how hard you shake it.
- The 20-Second Rule: Channel your inner mixologist and shake vigorously! Nic recommends counting to a full 20 to ensure a frosty chill and a beautifully frothy head.
- Pour and Share: Uncap, pour directly into your High Camp Tumblers, and hand 'em out.
Nic's Pro-Tip: Skip the Hot Espresso
While traditional recipes demand freshly pulled, piping-hot espresso, Nic actually prefers using a high-quality cold brew. Cold brew has a naturally smoother flavor profile, and using chilled coffee allows you to control the cocktail's dilution much more accurately.

Ready to Raise the Bar This Weekend?
Whether you’re setting up a backyard happy hour or pre-gaming a night out, batching ensures the drinks flow as easily as the conversation.
