The Friday Fill Episode 2: How to Batch a (Real) Margarita

The foolproof, fresh-squeezed batch margarita every great host needs in their repertoire.

Welcome back to The Friday Fill, our bi-weekly series dedicated to easy, elevated cocktail recipes and brilliant hosting hacks that kick off the weekend right. It’s time to stop thinking about your inbox and start thinking about the weekend. Grab your phone, rally your crew, and let’s get some plans on the calendar.

For Episode Two, High Camp co-founder Nic is tackling the undisputed heavyweight champion of crowd-pleasers: A Classic Margarita.

The Ultimate Hosting Hack: A Margarita Recipe You Must Master

If you're the type of person who enjoys bringing people together, there is one recipe you need hardwired into your brain and regularly stocked in your liquor ca and fridge. It’s a foolproof crowd-pleaser you can shake up at a backyard BBQ, a remote cabin trip, or a spontaneous Friday night gathering.

We’re talking about a real margarita. None of this neon-green sour mix or overly sweet artificial syrups. You want a clean, bright, and exceptionally balanced classic made with fresh ingredients. The secret to being the hero of the party without spending the night in the kitchen? Batching. Crafting one massive, expertly balanced cocktail for the whole crew at once lets you step out from behind the bar and actually mingle.

The Foolproof Batch Margarita (By the Numbers)

Yields six stellar margaritas (16 oz total liquid).

  • 8 oz Tequila (Blanco or Reposado)
  • 4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 oz Triple Sec (Orange Liqueur)
  • 2 oz Agave Nectar

The Golden Ratio: 2 parts Tequila, 1 part Lime Juice, ½ part Triple Sec, ½ part Agave.

How to Shake It Up

We build this batched masterpiece in the Highball Shaker. Its 750ml (1 liter with expanded strainer) capacity provides ample room for the cocktail and enough ice for a phenomenal chill.

  1. Ice It Down: Start by filling your Highball Shaker halfway with ice.
  2. Pour it In: Measure your tequila, fresh lime juice, triple sec, and agave nectar directly over the ice.
  3. Lock and Load: Thread the lid onto the Highball Shaker. The secure threading ensures it stays locked no matter how enthusiastically you shake, and the vacuum-insulated steel keeps your hands from freezing.
  4. The 30-Second Shake: Grab it with two hands and shake vigorously! Nic recommends 20 to 30 seconds for a frosty chill and precise dilution.
  5. Pour and Garnish: Uncap and pour over fresh ice into your High Camp Tumblers. Garnish with a classic lime wedge and hand them out.

Nic's Pro-Tip: Fresh Squeezed is Non-Negotiable
If you want to blow your friends away, step away from the bottled juice. Taking five minutes to squeeze fresh limes is the single biggest upgrade you can make, providing a zesty acidity that pre-packaged juices cannot replicate.

Mix for many. Mingle with all. Spice it up your marg by garnishing with jalapeño slices.
