Tequila doesn't go into storage with the patio furniture. Here's the fall cocktail that proves it.
Somewhere around the first cold Saturday of October, the tequila gets pushed to the back of the cabinet to wait for next summer. We think that's a mistake.
Reposado spends months resting in oak, picking up vanilla and caramel along the way. It has more in common with your favorite whiskey than with a frozen marg, and that makes it a natural for fall. So for this episode of The Friday Fill, High Camp's own Megan took over the kitchen to mix the Sweater Weather: reposado tequila, hazelnut liqueur, and pear syrup, finished with bitters and poured over one big ice sphere.
Think of an Old Fashioned that spent the summer in Jalisco. It's nutty, a little sweet, and warm all the way down. It's also a short ingredient list and one good shake, and Megan batches a full round at once so nobody gets stuck playing bartender.
Make it for the porch, the fire pit, or the friends who came over to watch the game and never left.

High Camp Tip: Listen for the Ice
With a regular shaker, freezing fingers tell you when the drink is cold. An insulated shaker never gets cold on the outside, so your hands are no help. Your ears are.
When you start shaking, the ice is loud. As the batch chills, the sound softens. Megan's rule is simple:
When the ice quiets, your drinks are chilled.

The Gear Behind the Batch
New: The Agave Flask
Megan poured her reposado from our newest flask, and the first one we've ever built around a single spirit. The Agave Flask carries a full 750ml bottle of tequila or mezcal in vacuum-insulated steel, with two tumblers that lock on with magnets. There's no liner or coating inside, so this weekend's smoky mezcal won't show up in next weekend's blanco.
The faceted grip on the cap and tumblers is modeled on the piña, the heart of the agave plant. Each tumbler holds 10.5 oz, which leaves plenty of room for an XL ice sphere and a Sweater Weather.
It's made for the good bottle you keep saving for a special occasion. A Friday with friends counts.
The Highball Shaker
One shake, three drinks, zero trips back to the kitchen. Here's why Megan reached for the Highball Shaker:
- Room for the whole round: It's a 1-liter shaker that holds about 750ml of liquid plus ice. That's three Sweater Weathers with space left to double the recipe.
- Warm hands: Double-wall vacuum insulation keeps the cold in the shaker and off your fingers. Hence the listening trick.
- Built-in strainer: Pour straight from the shaker into the glass. One less tool to wash.
- Threaded lid: It seals tight, so a hard shake stays inside the shaker.
Pull On a Sweater and Pour
Fall weekends go fast. Text the group, light the fire pit, and have three of these on the table before anyone thinks to ask. Cheers to sweater weather.
