This sweet and spicy whiskey grapefruit batch cocktail is guaranteed to please any Papa Bear.
Everyone knows a guy like Tailgating with Rod. He’s the undisputed king of the stadium parking lot, the maestro of the backyard BBQ, and pretty much everyone's favorite uncle. When he’s not holding court by the grill, he’s usually mixing up something legendary to share with the crowd. With Father’s Day on the horizon, there's no better time to follow the playbook America's favorite tailgate party host.
If you’ve been following along with the Friday Fill, you already know the magic of a great batch drink—whether that means pouring a round of rich Espresso Martinis at the campsite or serving up tropical Batch Painkillers on the beach. This time around, the focus is on a perfectly balanced, subtly spicy whiskey cocktail guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser: The Papa Bear Whiskey Grapefruit Cocktail.
So here's your charge. Treat Dad to something special, host a weekend cookout, or prep for the next big tailgate. With the Papa Bear Cocktail, you'll surely raise the bar.
The Papa Bear Whiskey Grapefruit Cocktail
Makes a batch of 4 cocktails.
Ingredients:
- 8 oz Whiskey
- 3 oz Rosso (Sweet Vermouth)
- 3 oz Pink Grapefruit Juice (Regular grapefruit juice works great, too!)
- 2 oz Lemon Juice
- 1 oz Hot Honey Syrup (Rod’s secret weapon for a little kick, but regular honey syrup works perfectly)
Instructions:
- Build the Batch: Measure and pour all ingredients directly into a High Camp Flask. The wide, easy-fill opening means no funnel is required.
- The Shake: Secure the cap tightly to ensure a leak-proof seal, and give the flask a couple of quick, vigorous shakes.
- The Pour: Fill the tumblers with ice, pour the cocktail directly from the flask, and toast to Dad!
Rod’s Tailgate Pro Tip: If you plan to serve your drinks over ice, shake the batch without cubes to maximize the volume of the good stuff.
A Note on Dilution: While Rod’s approach is brilliant for maximizing the sheer volume of your batch, shaking with ice can mellow the booze and blend the flavors through dilution. That said, there is no wrong way to mix a great drink. Do what tastes great to you!
